This is the third blog post in a series about a Community of Practice based in radical love. Here are the first posts – here and here and here.
As I prepared for this session, after overplanning the last, I was cognizant of the need for dialogue (as in Freire’s dialogic work) and that can’t be rushed, no matter what I want. So I planned for less to occur in this next session so that Goal Setting could have its glory.
When we began, we started with the goals of the session and a review of our Community Agreements:
- Create personal goals for radical love
- Compare/Contrast different coaching models
Remember this community of practice was doing multiple things at once, because of course, we can walk and chew gum. We were learning and experiencing radical love in community, while implementing and reflecting on our practice of radical love in service of creating a coaching model.
We started with our goal setting. I shared the laminated checklist and the SMART goal checklist so coaches could spend time remembering the areas where their efforts could be self monitored in the reflection form each week. (Have I shared the reflection form with y’all yet?) Coaches created exciting goals choosing specific characteristics and actions that they could take to demonstrate radical love in their coaching practice.
After sharing our goals with the group, we moved into looking at coaching models. I shared a comparison document of coaching models that was created in-district, so I can’t share it currently. But coaches familiarized with the model characteristics and compared and contrasted with the draft radical love coaching model. We asked the questions: What components? Characteristics? Strategies? Do we want in our coaching model? This discussion helped guide the next 3 sessions – understanding where the coaches needed time to PRACTICE and where coaches needed time to share and dialogue with each other.
What goals might you set around radical love in YOUR practice?
What characteristics would you want in a radical love coaching model?
