time off, recovery and reflection

Re-read Rich Roll's "Finding Ultra" for inspiration and advice. It's like reading a very long letter from a friend at this point. Very strange to have a connection with someone that is not actually real in your life.

a short, not fabulous, but still worked, overview of the imlp course and what to expect race week and race day. the guy was a FAST racer and did lake placid quite a few times. i have A LOT of work ahead of me.

what else can i say?
what else can i say?

so i’ve had a month off of everything. i’ve done some swimming and started running last week. and am about to head out on a bike ride. i’ve had a mixed month filled with weird illness, loads of ups and downs, some crazy nervous anticipation of the journey to imlp and definitely some moments of wanting to not do it. i am filled with fear of the unknown but know i must face it in order to overcome my demons, face my fears and grow. kate has given me a skeleton plan and her triathlon bike to rent. keke (the bike) fits so wonderfully and i can’t wait to ride her – hoping this week i can get her on the trainer and see how it goes.

but let’s get to the month off. i was able to set up my gardens and my yard looks fabulous. i’ve cooked really well (and not so well). i’m feeling pretty good in terms of what i need to eat regularly to feel good. i went apple picking for the first time and made a ton of applesauce and apple crisp. i have read a bunch of books. i have done some awesome stuff for my classroom.

i have not yet worked in my studio enough. i haven’t started the projects i wanted to. i’ve only meditated once. i certainly haven’t done any strength training. feeling a bit bummed out that those things haven’t happened. but they will. meditation is something i’m trying hard to add to my day – even just five minutes. it’s important.

but as i get closer to the “real” beginning of base building, my nerves are actually subsiding and i’m excited. excited to start this adventure and bring my tribe along for the ride (and run and swim….)
