so a few weeks ago i had the distinct pleasure to go to lake placid to watch and support my dear friend and training partner jas in his amazing feat of completing his first ironman. here are some of the pictures from that amazing weekend. we (me, suzanne, jaye and fiona) volunteered the day before the race in the bag check area and were able to meet thousands of athletes. that was such an incredible experience, like nothing i’ve ever done before. the following day was an early wake up call and then a day of following jas, figuring out timing, making sure we were fed and rested, meeting loads of people along the way, and watching his incredible journey through the course.
the weather was tricky that day – swimmers were pulled from the water due to an insane thunderstorm, then it cleared up to a gorgeous day that ended in a cool evening. watching the determination and perseverance of the athletes that day was inspiring and touching.
jas had a tremendous day. he was happy and healthy throughout his race. he finished and i was able to spend time with him in the finisher area, where he was chatty and happy. i couldn’t have prayed for a better day for him.
